How to Fight Spam?

Email and snail-mail spams are extremely annoying. This is a short page with some quick tips on how to prevent and reduce Spam.

*newest type of scam/phishing*

I just came across the newest type of scam/phishing over the web, and
thought I'd tell you guys to be careful.

If you sell on Ebay or Half.com, you're probably familiar with emails
from potential buyers sent through ebay - as you konw, ebayers and
half.com shoppers can send emails through the 'contact seller' or 'ask
a seller a question' link on the sites.

I just received an email like that, it looks entirely authentic, "A
question from a buyer" - everything seems real: the ebay address, the
message, the privacy warnings, the ebay logos, EXCEPT for one thing -
"Dear            " - it did not have my ebay account name in the
message.

Please be really careful. Do NOT click on the any links the email.
Delete it immediately.
If you're worried that you actually do have a message from a real
buyer, you can always just log in to ebay or half.com and check your
message center.

Feel free to forward this to anyone.

Quick Tips:

1. Do NOT unsubscribe - most of the time, clicking on the "unsubscribe" link or following the "unsubscribe" instructions in the spam email simply confirm for the spammers that your email account is active. You end up getting more spam from them as a result.
Tab Unless the emails you recieved are from large and reputable companies (for example, Pepsi, Amazon, or Sony), or that you in fact signed up to receive advertisement-emails from their websites - in such cases you are actually unsubscribing, and you should stop getting emails from them.

2. Do NOT post your email address online - one of the ways that spammers obtain email addresses is through programs that crawl the Web in search of email addresses. Many people choose to post their email addresses by spelling out "@" (for example, "johnsmith AT yahoo.com")
